A Clinical Investigation of Acute Burn in Diabetes Mellitus Patients

Abstract
Purpose: Development of moderm medical science & health care system led to a increase in the population of elderly person and subsequently chronic disease as diabetes mellitus. The purpose of this retrospective study was to compare clinical outcomes between diabetic and nondiabetic patient.

Methods: A total of 329 burned patient with diabetes mellius were investigated by retrospective study from January 2002 to December 2006 (within TBSA 20%).

Results: The cause of burn in diabetes mellitus patients is mainly scalding burn (40%) and flame burn (24%). A 51% of patient is healed with conservative management and the remain is performed operation.

Conclusion: Burn wounds in diabetics are deeper, are more likely to undergo operative intervention, to stay in the hospital longer. Diabetics may require a more aggressive approach to minimize wound associated complicatioin and a more mediculous prevention.
